Resumen

El amor platónico representa una conexión humana profunda caracterizada por la intimidad emocional sin atracción romántica o sexual. Las relaciones platónicas duraderas, como las que persisten por más de 30 años, son cruciales para el bienestar social y emocional. Este artículo explora la base neurocientífica de estos vínculos duraderos, examinando las regiones cerebrales implicadas (corteza prefrontal, unión temporoparietal, ínsula, sistema de recompensa, amígdala, precúneo), los neurotransmisores clave (oxitocina, vasopresina, dopamina, serotonina) y la dinámica neuronal evolutiva. Se discuten las distinciones neurobiológicas entre el amor platónico y el romántico, destacando diferencias en la intensidad de activación del sistema de recompensa y la ausencia de circuitos de deseo sexual en el amor platónico. Se aborda el papel de la teoría del apego, mediada por la oxitocina y la vasopresina, en el mantenimiento de la seguridad y estabilidad del vínculo. Finalmente, se considera la influencia de la nostalgia en el fortalecimiento de estas relaciones a largo plazo a través de la memoria compartida y la activación de sistemas de recompensa. Comprender esta neurobiología subraya la importancia de las conexiones sociales diversas para la salud mental y física.
